How to Prompt for Creating Perfect Ad Copies with AI

Prompt writing guide - ad-with abs

Writing perfect ad copy is an art, and I am an artist. Yeah, I always wanted to say that… I have writing working ad copies for more than a decade now. But now when we have AI as our copywriter many things have changed. Copywriting has been evolved, but a few knew the right way to write the ad copy for these.

We have Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot & OpenAI ChatGPT, are few of our leading LLM or AI Chatbots we are using to write our ad copies.

One can use these not just for writing the ad copy but also for doing a comprehensive analysis of your product with the competitor’s.

You want to learn more about prompting, we have guidelines from:

Let’s begin on writing the best prompt for your ad copy.

From the Basics of Prompting:

The first thing you need to understand is that your AI is super powerful tool. It is like a Gennie, which can do most of your complicated tasks, not just copywriting, but from image creation to analyzing your big excel sheets with python, it can do everything, and basically anything.

All you need is to give the right prompt, right message and AI will generate the right content for you.

The better is prompt, better is the result.

First Step in Prompting – Give a Persona:

AI has many use cases, but here we will stick to the topic, and will talk only about writing your best ad copy.

As here we need to write the best ad copy, so we need to give a the persona of a copywriter to our AI chatbot. In simple words we will be doing a roleplay with AI, so in this case we will ask it to play a role of a smart copywriter.

We can write, “you are seasoned copywriter, with more than a decade of experience in writing perfect ad copies for various b2c and b2c companies”.

Now the AI knows what it will be doing, in this case, writing.

Add the Context:

Now we need to give it a brief intro, about the context. So here we can add, “you are now working with [company name], and we will be launching a new campaign for [product/service/offer]. Being a copywriter leader with [company name], You have knowledge about the [service/product]”.

So now the AI knows the product. Unlike the previous generations of AI tools, todat many can use internet knowledge to learn about the product/service to write about.

Now we need to give it the task.

Adding the Task layer:

Now you need to define the task, what we need to write. So as we are talking about ad copy writing, so we can add, “Write the headlines and description in Google search ads format”

many times AI does not understand the character limit, sometimes char limit can be increased or decreased, depending upon the final output required.

Now Add the Final Format:

Now we need to tell the AI in what format we will need the output. Yeah, we already told the we need headlines and description in GoogleAds format, but there are various campaign types in Google Ads, like Demand Gen – that needs longer headlines. So, we need to tell the AI exactly the character length of the Google ads headlines and Description.

So the final add-on prompt should be – “Create 10 headlines with 30 Character length, & 5 Descriptions with 90 character length”.

Examples of Final Prompt:

Now I am going to give away some very important prompts for your ad creations. We will discuss the prompts for helping you craft Keywords, Google Ads Headlines & Descriptions.

Let’s start with Prompts for keyword research:

Example #1 – High-Intent Keyword Discovery

Focus on transactional and commercial intent (e.g., “best accounting software for SMBs”).
Organize results into categories: Transactional, Commercial, and Branded.

Example #2 – Long-Tail Pain Point Keywords

Act as a keyword research expert. Suggest 20 long-tail keywords for Back2Software that highlight pain points like “manual bookkeeping,” “compliance errors,” and “time-consuming reporting.”

Then suggest how Back2Software can position itself uniquely.

Example 2 – Competitor Keyword Gap

List the top 15 keywords competitors like QuickBooks and Xero are likely bidding on.
Then suggest 10 “opportunity keywords” that Back2Software could target where competition is lower but intent is high.
Provide reasoning for each opportunity keyword.

Final thoughts:

We have been writing ad copy with AI, there are various web-tools which can help us in creating our perfect Ad Copy. All we need is a right prompt. If you can write a good prompt, you will get good results.

But, in my opinion, if you want a perfect ad copy, i highly suggest you write a best ad copy you can. The ad copy you will create will cover more variations and keywords. For making a prefect ad copy first you need to know and understand the product you will be writing the ad copy for.
